Dulcolax

Description

Dulcolax is a medical product which has a laxative action. It contains an ingredient Bisacodyl. This ingredient causes an irritation of the bowel leading to the production of mucus in the large intestine. Due to the increased secretion of mucus, the intestinal motility is improved, and a normal process of defecation.

A pharmacological action develops slowly. A laxative action occurs within 6-8 hours during the peroral use of Dulcolax. If the medicine is used at bedtime, desires for stool will start in about 10 hours – in 30 minutes after awakening.

A slow onset of the effect is compensated by a good tolerance of Dulcolax. This medicine seldom causes side effects and has a high level of the pharmacological safety.

Dulcolax is used during:

In what dose is Dulcolax used?

Dulcolax is produced in two medical forms: tablets for the oral use and suppositories for the rectal application.

The tablets of Dulcolax are used 1-2 times per day depending on purposes. To treat constipation, adults are recommended to take 1-2 tablets. To prepare for surgeries, 2 tablets of Dulcolax are taken at bedtime, before surgery.

Dulcolax suppositories work faster and are prescribed if the use of the tablets is contraindicated. They are introduced into straight intestine 1-2 times per day depending on the recommendations for the use.

The treatment is continued till the recovery of the natural defecation of the intestine.

Take at least 2-2,5 liters of water per day during the treatment.

An intestinal atoney may happen during a long-term application of the suppositories. The side effects are usually light and do not need a cessation of Dulcolax.
