Some young people experience suicidal thoughts when first taking any antidepressant. It is therefore important to visit your doctor for regular progress checks when taking bupropion. Also, caregivers and family should remain alert to changes in mood or symptoms.

There is no information to suggest that bupropion can harm an unborn baby. However, if you are pregnant or are planning on getting pregnant, inform your doctor for clear guidance. Bupropion can get into breast milk and end up harming the baby. Bupropion should therefore not be used when breastfeeding.

How to take Bupropion

Bupropion should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Also, follow the directions on the prescription label. Do not take this medication in smaller or larger amounts or for a longer duration than recommended. Taking too much bupropion increases the risk of getting a seizure.

Do not stop taking bupropion abruptly. This could lead to unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. When you want to stop taking bupropion, ask your doctor how you can safely do so.

Bupropion can lead you to get a false positive drug screening test. If you present a urine sample to a laboratory for drug screening, be sure to inform the staff that you are taking bupropion.

This medication should be stored at room temperature and away from heat and moisture.
